Thank you for your help with the African American Art projects. They were very impressive.
Our class is studying Women's History. At the end of the month, we will have our class History Jeopardy Contest.
The Clissold Cultural Arts Committee is sponsoring a Women's History Poetry Contest for the month of March, and a St. Patrick's Day puzzle contest. This information has already been sent home.
For Spring, we will be making spring baskets. The children will need the following:
1. a clean, empty, gallon plastic milk or water container ( please send by 3/23).
Oratory Contest: Thank you for helping to prepare your child for our speech contest. The presentations were very impressive, and it was very difficult to select only one student to move on to the next level of competition. They were all great and many learned much more than expected. Lorenzo Harris will represent our room in the school competiton on Tues. 2/3 at 9:30.
February Research Reports: During the month of February, we celebrate the birthdays of two Presidents and African American History. The children have 2 research reports to complete:
1. The President Report: They are to select either George Washington or Abraham Lincoln to report on. Two artifacts are due with each report. The report information and forms were sent home on Thurs. 1/29. Due date: Wed. Feb. 11th.
2. The Famous African American Report: The children are to select a famous African American to research. The details for this report were also sent home on Thurs. 1/29. Due date: Wed. Feb. 18th.
Happy New Year! Here are a few of the highlights for January.
1. The Young Author books that were completed over winter break are great.The children have been enjoying sharing their books with the class.
2. Thank you for helping with those wonderful Dr. King research reports that were turned in earlier this month. They will continue to be on display throughout this month.
3. On January 20th, the day after we celebrated the life of Dr. King, the children had the opportunity to watch the inauguration of the first African American President. What great timing!
4. The week of January 26th, we will start with our 2nd reading textbook. We will use this book for the rest of the school year.
5. Book reports are due Wed. 1/28. The children should be reading beginning chapter books now, please keep this in mind when helping them to select an appropriate book at the library or book store. Children should be doing some independent reading every night.
