Missing Work

Posted Sat, 12/19/2009

Parents and students,

If you know you or your child is missing any assignments (if there is a zero or the assignment is left blank in Parent Portal), please make those up over winter break and turn them in on Jan. 4.  Many students decided not to complete and hand in various discussion questions and/or their literary term charts for The Contender.

I have attached the discussion questions handouts for your convenience.  The literary terms assignment was that students had to find at least 2 terms per chapter of the book.  This assignment was given with chapter 1 and was a means to review what we read each night.  Many students did not complete this assignment and it was worth 50 points.

As always, any late work turned in is eligible for half credit.

I will be checking my email sporadically throughout break so please feel free to email me.  If I do not respond right away, please do not be upset.  I will get back to you as soon as I check my mail.

Young Authors Due Date

Posted Sun, 11/22/2009

Hello parents and students!

Just a friendly reminder that Young Authors Projects are due December 7th.  This is an assignment that students have been working on since September so it will NOT be accepted late; it needs to be here that day no matter what.  Please make sure your child has it binded (preferred) or in some type of report cover.  Young Authors Books that are simply stapled will not be accepted.

Thank you and have an enjoyable Thanksgiving.

Week of Nov. 2

Posted Tue, 11/03/2009

7th grade -

This week the students are researching an aspect of the 1970's as a prelude to our 2nd quarter novel The Contender.  The students are working in group and will have computer lab time as well as class time to work with their group on the poster and presentation.  Presentations will begin on Monday, Nov. 9.  We will begin reading the novel on Nov. 10 so if your child has not gotten the book please do so by then.

8th grade -

This week we are introducing Romeo and Juliet.  The students are watching a biography on Shakespeare and being introduced to the essential questions and literary terms for the play.  On Thurdsay, we will begin reading the Prologue and discuss it's role in the play.  The students will be writing their own prologue to Stargirl which was a novel that all students read last year in 7th grade.  Parents, please encourage students to stick with the play; the language can be difficult but any encouragement from you will allow them to see that with a little time and effort in can be interpreted.

Have a great week!

Late Work Policy

Posted Mon, 10/19/2009

Parents,

Please check the Parent Portal that is now up and running.  If you notice that your child is missing any work, I do give half credit for late work.  Please have your child complete the missing assignment(s) immediately and turn it in to me.  Like I tell the students, some points are better than no points!!!
