AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH

Posted Sun, 02/22/2009

All students are currently studying events, people, facts, etc. regarding African-American History.  A video entitled THE HISTORY OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT was shown and students had to write an extended -response based on notes taken regarding the importance of that movement. Students are also reading silently and answering CHALLENGES questions regarding various information in Black History. These assignments help prepare them  for the ISAT in addition to providing factual information about the struggles of African-Americans.  Additionally, discussions, a graffiti board with answers to essay questions, and a Civil Rights Movement word find will be completed.

All students must complete a project for either Black History or Women's History months.  They were given a handout for the art contest for Black History with guidelines.  For Women's History, they may also complete flat artwork.  This artwork may be a collage, poster or illustration/picture that is drawn by the student.  There must be a theme which may be about one particular woman or several women.  Examples of themes are Female Aviators or Physicians. Entertainers or artists are not allowed unless there is a historical connection.
